Willerby stayed a small farming village until the twentieth century, when new estates linked it to the edge of Hull. Today it is home to around 8,000 people, with the Yorkshire Wolds starting just to the west. A&R Cleaning provides cleaning services Willerby residents can arrange as regular visits or one-off jobs, covering four things every house needs looking after: glass, rooflines, carpets and paving.
Rather than a general overview, here is each service in turn, with notes on how it applies to the bungalows, detached homes and family semis that make up so much of the village.
Windows: from Willerby Square to the newest streets
Willerby Square, with its row of 1930s shops, is the obvious landmark, and Main Street, the village’s original through road, still has older buildings such as Alma Cottage and the former Parish Institute, a farmhouse dating from about 1750 that now houses Willerby Library. Further out, the housing is mostly suburban, from mid-century bungalows to the West Hill development, where building began in 2016.
Bungalows are a good example of where our approach helps. Every window is at ground level and within easy reach, so hand cleaning with an applicator and squeegee is quick, thorough and leaves edges and sills properly finished. Detached houses with larger glazed areas get the same pane-by-pane care. Find out more on our traditional window cleaning page.
Older buildings need a lighter touch. Willerby Hall, built in the early 1700s for a Hull merchant, has been converted into apartments, and the cottages along Main Street have smaller windows and older frames. Where the railway station once stood, Kingston Rise now has newer homes. Whatever the age of your house, we take care with the frames as well as the glass.
- Regular rounds to keep glass clear all year

Gutters, fascias and soffits near the Wolds edge
Because Willerby sits where the flat land around Hull meets the first rise of the Wolds, many gardens back onto fields, hedgerows or mature trees, especially towards Willerby Hill on the Cottingham boundary. Leaves, seeds and wind-blown debris end up in gutters, and once moss takes root it slows drainage further.
Bungalow gutters are low, which makes them easy to forget. Detached houses tend to have long rooflines with several downpipes. Either way, our fascia, soffit and gutter service clears out leaves, moss and debris so rainwater can flow freely, and washes the green staining off the exterior of gutters, fascias and soffits.
Willerby’s position on rising ground also matters for windows on the western side of the village. Weather blowing in across the open farmland of the Wolds carries dust from the fields at harvest time and in dry, windy spells, which settles as a fine brown film on glass, frames and sills.
Why drainage matters in Willerby
Willerby was among the areas hit by the floods of 2007. In response, the Willerby and Derringham Bank Flood Alleviation Scheme was built in 2014 and 2015, adding four storage lagoons to hold back surface water during heavy rain.
That scheme protects the wider area, but at the scale of your own house the basics still count. Gutters that overflow dump water against walls and onto paths. Keeping them clear is one of the most practical, low-cost bits of upkeep you can do, particularly before the autumn and winter rain arrives.
Driveways and patios across the village
Detached homes and bungalows in Willerby usually come with generous drives, side paths and rear patios, and in a village close to open countryside these surfaces pick up mud, leaf litter and moss quite quickly.
Our pressure washing takes moss, algae, grime and everyday dirt off driveways, patios, garden paths and similar hard ground. It is especially worthwhile on shaded patios, where a slippery green layer can build up over winter, and on drives along roads like Carr Lane, Kingston Road and the routes near the B1232, where passing traffic adds a film of road dirt.
A clean drive also shows off a home well if you are thinking of selling. Several of the cleaning services Willerby sellers book in the weeks before photos are taken are exactly this: a pressure wash outside, clean windows and a carpet refresh inside.
Carpets in family homes and bungalows
With Wolfreton School’s lower school in the village and plenty of families, hallways and stairs see a lot of feet. Many bungalow owners, meanwhile, have carpet running through almost every room, so a refresh makes the whole home feel cleaner at once.
Our carpet cleaning lifts embedded dirt, tackles day-to-day marks and smells, and brings back the look of tired carpets. Book a single room, a staircase and landing, or the whole property.
If you have pets, or a doorway that opens straight from the garden, the strip of carpet just inside usually takes the most punishment. Point those areas out beforehand so they get extra attention on the day.
Arranging cleaning services Willerby can rely on
Pricing a job costs you nothing, and you are never tied in. The quickest way is to snap a few photos and send them through the quote form or on WhatsApp, saying which services you are interested in. Many Willerby customers pair windows with gutters, or a spring pressure wash with a carpet clean.
